December 4th

A bit of a blast from the past today, with a slideshow of Christmas 2004 at FBC. Some familiar faces, and some long departed.

Advent gives us the chance to reflect on the HOPE that Jesus' birth brings to us. Let us take time today to think back over the past year (or twenty), bringing Him the good, the bad and the ugly, and asking Him to fill us with renewed hope and anticipation.

December 3rd

Advent02-1If you are following the Advent Reflections bible reading plan (from the Bible Project) as suggested on December 1st, you should now be on Day 6. (Don't worry if you're on a different day, and it's never too late to start!) This first week's readings are about Hope, and if you have been keeping up you may have already seen this video which introduces us to the biblical concept of hope. It's worth seeing again!

What are you hoping for this advent?

December 2nd

An introduction to Advent. Taken from our Advent Sunday service at FBC in 2021. Planet earth, the watery planet is also a dying and dark planet, but it is the visited planet and one day will be revisited.

December 1st

For Christians around the world, Advent refers to the four weeks leading up to Christmas, where communities remember and celebrate the arrival of Jesus and join together in the hope of his ultimate return.

In some traditions, followers of Jesus devote the first two weeks of Advent to remembering Jesus' promise to return and renew Heaven and Earth. Then, during the last two weeks of Advent, these communities focus on the birth of Jesus. In other traditions, people reflect on the concepts of hope, peace, love, and joy—one for each week leading up to Christmas. People may light Advent candles, prepare unique wreaths, hold special church services, or read specific Scriptures each day to reflect on the arrival of Jesus on Earth.

Each day of Advent, you will be able to open a new window on our advent calendar for a daily reflection or video. We will be sharing the advent journey, and also revisiting some FBC Christmases from years gone by.

We'd like to encourage you to follow the Advent Reflections bible reading plan (from the Bible Project). Hint: If you want it to end on Christmas Day, and make sure it fits in with our advent calendar, start today and do the first four readings in one go, then continue with Day 5 tomorrow).

Come back tomorrow and relive the 'Advent Introduction' from one of our services three years ago. Have a wonderful Advent season!
